Thordarson, Pete

Pete's career in broadcast began in radio in the 1980s, behind the microphone as a DJ. For the last 20+ years, he's worked in broadcast television as an engineering leader with a focus on contribution/distribution encoding/delivery. His TV career began at Prime Sports NW as a Transmission Engineer Lead. He then moved to Los Angeles to work at FOX Sports Net, which lead him to FOX Network Center where he was responsible for launching the Networks' first-generation HD MPEG-2 compression systems. Pete has worked several high profile events such as the Super Bowl, Daytona 500 and American Idol finales ensuring successful backhaul transmissions as well as satellite distribution paths to the 200+ FOX affiliates across the US.

Recently, Pete was Chief Engineer at DIRECTV Sports Networks Northwest where he transitioned the RSN to full HD. Pete is now a Stages and Transmission Engineering Lead at Microsoft Production Studios in Redmond. He currently oversees engineering for stages, contribution transmission, and remote productions for clients such as Microsoft's CEO, XBOX, and Events.
